Getting an appointment is horrendous. The instant reaction is we have no appointments no matter what time you phone. I have been sent to a pharmacist before for a doctor's level of medical attention. Reception staff seem to give medical advice which is clearly not appropriate. I have phoned at 2pm before and told to wait for GP out of hours. I have phoned first thing no appointments and it later transpired there was no doctor on the premesis. Receptionists withhold information or give incorrect Information. This in turn causes irritation which could be avoided. I have seen several GP's when I have eventually got in and all have been great. Getting passed reception is the main battle and it's a battle at every phone call. I am now reluctant to ring for medical attention. This is not how it used to be or should be. |

My mother is 87 and therefore has health issues but is very good for her age. However, she had been feeling faint (low blood pressure we found out later) for a few days and so I rang to make her an appointment with the doctor. The receptionist was very kind and helpful and said that she would ring me back, which she did quite promptly.
She said that the doctor had told her, to tell me, to take Mum to A & E! Clearly the situation was neither an emergency nor an accident! If every GP told their patients to go to the hospital, the pressure on the NHS would be far greater. Being over 80 the doctor should do home visits but this never happened.
Needless to say my mother has moved to a new GP surgery. |
