I'm really disappointed to be writing this review, however, I 'm sure that I am not the only person who has experienced what I have today and on many other occasions.
You make a call to book an appointment or in my case, I was returning a call as a message was left for me to make contact with the doctor.
Having to listen to the automated message takes about a minute, the line then rings and after several rings, the phone cuts off. I thought maybe they had answered the phone and put it down by mistake. I called back, listen to the long-winded automated message, the phone rings and cuts off again !!
I attempted to call 10 further times, taking almost 20 minutes of my lunch break at work.
Eventually, someone to pick up, I had asked if there had been a problem with the phone line, I was told there is nothing wrong with there phone lines, I then questioned why I had been constantly cut off for the past 20 minutes? They could not answer my question and reassured me nothing was wrong with the phone lines; clearly, there is something not right. If their phone lines are ok, then t can only mean that the person who should be answering calls is not and they are putting the phone down on their patients.
This is not a one-off on many occasion the above happened.
We don't all have time to call over and over again to try and speak with a receptionist !! I recently needed to be rescued from a nasty infection which made me feel very ill. I had tried over the counter medication from my local pharmacy which had not fixed me.
I rang the surgery, explained to Recetionist who was helpful and promised a call back from a doctor.10 mins later one particular doctor called me, asked very relevant questions had looked at my record, knew my problem was unusual for me and asked me to visit surgery with next half an hour. I was tested, examined and prescribed excellent medication which had me better within a few days.
I am impressed and grateful.
My husband has also received polite and caring services from the Reception Team and the Doctors and Practice Nurses when necessary, we are kept well advised and happy by the whole professional Team at New Hall Lane Health Centre and recommend the good care there. Much improved practice in recent times. I have been registered here for about 15 years and I remember things being rather different.
The biggest number of complaints used to be about reception staff (and rightly so, in my view!). Not sure if they have changed or trained reception staff, but there are two particular ladies (best not mention their names I guess) who seem to have worked on their customer service skills - which is tremendously positive. They still lapse into making the wrong decision or drawing the wrong conclusion occasionally (the two reception staff), but by and large, the experience of dealing with them has changed for the better. There are also some reception staff that are delightful to deal with.
As for the healthcare staff, nurses and doctors, I have nothing but praise. Courteous, professional, efficient. Most of my recent appointments have been telephone appointments, and this system works very well.
It has been quite obvious to me in the past how desperately short staffed they have been (for GP doctors). Not sure what the reasons behind this are, but there are far fewer GPs working at the practice now. It would be saddening and a great shame if GPs (experienced and newly qualified) actively avoid a healthcare setting in a deprived area or because of the reputation of the area.
