I had spent over a week trying to sort our a prescription I was given for the wrong thing and was very relieved to be finally collecting a prescription for the correct thing. After having bought and paid for the wrong item at the Wood End Pharmacy I asked the Dr I spoke to what I should do with the medicine I had been given as I would need to exchange it for the correct one they said don't worry about it, keep it or just give it back to the pharmacy - I thought great at least I don't have to pay for an item I don't need/won't use. When I went to the pharmacy I explained briefly to the staff member who came forward to serve me and they went to check with another staff member (who turned out to be the manager/owner and I heard them say something about no tick being in the box so of course she has to pay. I then explained to the owner/manager what had happened and that from the conversation I'd had with the Dr I would not have to pay because of the mistake. The response, and I quote And...?! they then stood there looking at me like I had 2 heads. I was quite shocked at this very curt, rude and disrespectful one word response. I then explained again that I was only going by what the Dr told me and that I even offered to take the item back to them for an exchange and the Doctor had told me to keep it. The staff member said something like, well if you've got an issue then you need to take it up with the Drs surgery, that's nothing to do with us, you can't expect to come here, take an item and expect not to pay for it etc. I felt shocked that this member of staff was so rude, dismissive and could have explained exactly the same thing but without being condescending.
I went back into the Drs surgery stunned, explained what had just happened they then confirmed very nicely what I needed to do next and that it was up to manager discretion as to whether I'd get a refund for the wrong item I had been prescribed and that I needed to speak to the manager. To which I said I think I'd just spoken to them and emphasised how shocked I was at their rudeness. I then went back into the pharmacy and confirmed whether they were the manager to which they said yes, I then asked if they were the owner they confirmed (uncertainly) that they were and then proceeded to try and explain something about how things work; funny how they're choosing that moment to explain something they could have explained during the first brief conversation. I interrupted and explained all I needed was their name and at that moment I knew there would be no discretion extended to me, and that I would never purchase my prescriptions from there again.
I have witnessed their impatience and disrespect for others first hand while waiting to be served, and heard about the dismissive attitude towards one of my family members when they queried something about their prescription just a few weeks ago, but nothing prepared me for this. I don't think it is unreasonable to expect politeness when using any service, but especially when it's regarding your health |
