Blenheim Lodge

I felt my mum, Jenny Growden, was so well looked after in the 11 months she was staying at Blenheim Lodge. Originally coming in for respite care it quickly became apparent my mum could not be in her own home anymore. The care staff seemed genuinely concerned for my mothers well being and actively tried to get her the help she needed whilst providing care daily in the midst of coming out of lockdown. From the manager to the cleaner they all played their part in making sure mum was safe, well fed and encouraged to take part in the life of the home. I was sad that mum had to move on due to a decline in health but this was communicated in a compassionate way and the manager supported me to find somewhere suitable. I am so grateful for all those working in this home and am thankful to have found a place with good care.

My father's cousin was taken ill in her own home at the age of 90 and had to spend some time in hospital. It was apparent to all, apart from her, that she would not be able to return home - a place she had lived in for almost 80 years. She was adamant that she wanted to stay in Minehead and one of her friends recommended Blenheim Lodge. Dad and I viewed several places but were impressed by the warm and friendly atmosphere at Blenheim Lodge. The manager's relaxed yet firm style of management and the opportunities that awaited my father's cousin if she wanted to take them impressed us both. With huge reluctance she moved in and to be honest we were not hopeful that she would stay for very long! However the patience of the staff was incredible and by the end of the first year my father's cousin was not only settled, but helping to run Thai Chi classes, organise music nights and run errands for her neighbours, despite being several years older than many of them. She lived happily at Blenheim Lodge for almost seven years and admitted to my father and others some years ago that she wished she had moved sooner! Blenheim Lodge gave her an incredible quality of life, some independence and enabled her to have the confidence to live life more fully than she had done so for years. The manager and her team knew when to encourage and when to step back. I only hope that my family find a Blenheim Lodge for me when my time for care arrives.

My Mum was in Blenheim Lodge for about 6 years and I can honestly say that she couldn't have had better care anywhere else, particularly towards the end of her life. The Manager and all the care staff treated My Mum with respect and dignity and made her last days the best they could have. They also embraced me as her daughter which I shall never forget. They made me feel a part of this lovely home and I feel comfortable calling in just for a chat. It is hard for a relative like me to see a Mum in a home and deteriorating, but it was all eased by the way she was treated. Wonderful. Many thanks to the very dedicated staff. (The question at No 3 does not apply as I visited for the whole of the time Mum was there).
