Hello
Tried to help an elderly immobile member of my family - to register with this GP surgery.
My aunts live two minutes walk away and it is her closest Gp
Was told she was not in their catchment area ..... so she has to register with one FURTHER AWAY ....totally rubbish for an elderly person who struggles walking
Unless you live in the car park, don't bother trying to register as they have a very strange policy on catchment areas and registering.
I phoned to complain and was told by the 'couldn't care less' receptionist... that they were NOT ALLOWED - which is total nonsense as the NHS leave it up to the surgeries themselves as to which local people they will take on
Maybe the receptionists need educating on their job and offer some duty of care to the vulnerable members of THEIR LOCAL COMMUNITY - check out the NHS policy here from the NHS website :- '''''Since January 5 2015, all GP practices in England have been free to register new patients who live outside their practice boundary area'''''' ...so obviously you just DIDNT WANT TO HELP - educate yourselves as its embarrassing for both of us when I know the rules around your job , better than you do Reply from Westcotes GP Surgery W2 Fri, 27 Jul 2018 16:39:03 +0100 Thank you for your feedback and I’m sorry to learn that you have had issues registering a member of your family. I took the liberty of asking my team but none of my staff are aware of this matter, which has led me to believe that you are possibly referring to Westcotes Health. We are based at Westcotes GP Surgery, 2 Westcotes Drive, LE3 0QR and would happily try and assist with the necessary registration. However, although you are partially correct surrounding the terms of registrations, the practice does reserve the right to decline a registration if a patient falls outside of the practice boundary and if it is thought that they will require domiciliary care from professionals such as district nurses. Unfortunately such staff are not employed by the practice and aligned to postcode areas thus it is not always deemed in the best interest of the patient to register outside of a practice boundary. Please don’t hesitate to visit our surgery and we will happily go through your options. |

I've been registered here for a number of years now and can honestly say I've never had any problems like you hear about at other practices. I've always been able to get an appointment when I genuinely need one and I've never had any difficulties with the staff being rude etc. |

Appointments are regularly cancelled or changed at very short notice, very limited nurse availability, inefficient and ineffective responses to enquiries eg travel vaccinations and high mark up for additional services e.g. fit to travel letters/sick note. I will be changing practices due to a consistently poor engagement from the practise as a whole. |
