After a period of unsuccessful self care, I recently attended Mill Street surgery as I was acutely unwell where I saw a GP who I have not consulted before. I normally enjoy good health and attend the surgery infrequently. I was able to get an appointment with a GP the same day . I found the GP to have a pleasant manner and thorough in her approach to diagnosing my condition and treatment.

Tried repeatedly to book a Appointments even used the Online service which keeps telling me no available appointments. When i ring for one during the day im told they wont unless its 8am and when you do ring at 8am you cant get through due to the volume of calls. Stupid system which is effectively barring me in practise from making a appointment. !!! Surely its not that hard for staff to schedule a future empty slot for me??

Thank you for taking the time to comment on the appointments system. We are currently in the process of reviewing and redesigning the appointments system in response to patient feedback. If you have a non-urgent query, you can always ‘ask the doctor a question’ via our website, by following this link: https://www.millstreetmedicalcentre.co.uk/digitalpractice/consulting-room Depending on your problem, the website also has lots of helpful information to help patients. We also offer appointments out of hours, called ‘extended access’. Further information can be found here: https://www.millstreetmedicalcentre.co.uk/practice_news/extended-hours/ I hope you find this helpful.

Just after 3pm on Friday, my 8yr old suddenly became unwell - spiked a temp and had symptoms consistent with a UTI. As she’d had around 6 lots of antibiotics for this over the last few months I took her straight down to the surgery to see if someone could dip her urine and prescribe appropriate medication. I was told by the receptionist that as it was after 3pm there was none there who could dip the urine sample, and that I had to go to St Helens hospital and the receptionist there would help me. So I helped my now shivering child out the surgery and we went to St Helens hospital - after 30mins waiting there we were asked to go back to our GP for help (by this time it was about 4.30). I decided to take her to the walk in centre instead as I was not confident the GP surgery would help me. The walk in centre triage nurse dipped her urine and confirmed she had a UTI. We waited and saw the doctor there who re-prescribed the last antibiotics that mill street had issued. We got home after 8pm - my 8yr old was generally very distressed and exhausted at this point. I am so thankful I have a car and can drive - I think she’d have collapsed if we’d been on the bus (no one asked me at any point if transport was an issue). I think this highlights training issues with the reception staff at Mill Street, as we were told totally incorrect information about what we should do, and there was no involvement of clinical staff there. I have had other poor experiences here in the last few years and am now looking to move to another GP practice.

Please can you contact the surgery directly, so we can investigate this? We have an open door policy for sick children and it appears that we have fallen short of our standards and that there may indeed be a training need for our staff. Thank you
