I wanted to talk to a female doctor about women’s health and treatment for a previously dislocated shoulder. The receptionist was very helpful, the female doctor was excellent and very sympathetic and quickly proposed and organised appropriate solutions for my problems. | ||||||

I visited the Ash Surgery on 13th Sept and met new receptionist Lindsay and her colleague whose name I have unfortunately forgotten. They were both very friendly and helpful and very efficient. Not the experience ihave had in the past.When I return I will not feel intimidated as I walk through the door like I have in the past Receptionists are very important as they are the port of call and starts your experience of the surgery. If they are rude and unhelpful it can cause alot of stress in a patient esp if they are feeling very unwell and aren't getting the help they need.The Doctors are brilliant but when you first walk in you need a friendly reception which is what I got which is lovely.Thank you. My wife had just given birth to our first child and we had very stressful night with the baby and we didn’t know what was up with him and we where getting a little concerned. He had a lot of discharge coming from his right eye, so after taking advice from the hospital midwife we contacted the ash to make an appointment. My wife and I , hadn’t decided on his name as he was only 4 days old, so we booked him in under my wife’s name. When we arrived at the ash we had both had very little sleep and where concerned about his eye. We where them told by the receptionist that he must have a name before they will see him, we both said put him as ‘baby’ and our surname. We were then told “no you can’t have that, as it will cause problems in our system”. I then explained that we legally have 6 weeks to name our baby and he can be seen as baby, as this is the advice given by the midwife. The receptionist continued to argue with my wife and I and told us, “ that if you don’t give us a name, his care is in your hands” Then , other receptionist on the desk then told us to be quiet as she can’t her the person on the telephone. At this point I asked to speak to the practice manager, they both replied “he is on holiday”. I replied with please get me who ever is in charge today. My baby is 4 days old, we are both new parents, who are stressed, scared and just wanted a doctor or community midwife to check our baby. We both understand that the practice need to register our baby but at the time we where just following advice we where given and using his NHS number . The staff that work in a doctors practice are supposed to help, support and advise patients,(their customers) with a caring nature and a little empathy wouldn’t be to much to ask for a 4 day old baby!!!! My wife and I where in total shock at the manner in which the receptionists handle this situation in a totally unprofessional way. After 15 years at this practice this is the final straw and all 3 of us will be registering with a new supportive and caring practice. | ||||||
