Went to get some anti acid tablets in the ASDA pharmacy as I had lots of heartburn which doesn’t get relieved by just gaviscon and need either ranitidine or omeprazole . Was left disappointed by the fact that there were just gaviscon and similar antacids one one hand and Nexium (esmoprazole) on the other side of the price range (I paid about £1 per tablet for the whole strip). There were no ranitidine tablets which may be needed to relieve heartburn. Of note the interesting thing was that there were no omeprazole tablets (which I guess would be much cheaper than esmoprazole) and the the only option to go with was esmoprazole (which is much more expensive) as omeprazole are not over the counter medicines apparently whereas esmoprazole is over the counter (same mechanism of action at stomach level). Profit greedy Pharmacological industries leave no option for a common man. This needs tighter controls.
