My wife ordered Varifoca using your BOGOF offer, which I paid £363.00 for. The glasses were ordered in the Lichfield branch just less than two weeks ago. Today we were called to try them and collect. Unfortunately one pair would appears to be completely useless as the angle of the glass in the frame (90 degrees) prohibits her reading anything without positioning herself in a very uncomfortable manner. After spending 90 minutes with your staff bending and trying to correct the problem we gave up.
What would resolve this problem is if you changed the frame to be the same as the pair my wife was most comfortable with of the two. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case, not one single person in that store could take the decision to affect a satisfactory customer outcome. All I got told was that the manager wasn’t available until next Wednesday. I had to insist that they call someone else so the area manager was called and they put the ball firmly back in the manager’s court. I was very surprised that this person didn’t have the common decency to speak to me in person.
I also called the customer service line, I would question why they bother to advertise this as a customer service facility, all could do is tell me that the store needed to handle the problem and there was no escalation process other than to make this complaint in writing via email.
Also.....
1. When my wife tried these two pairs of glasses on, we got the “they look good” from your sales assistant. What we didn’t get was any mention that one pair (the good ones) were angled differently than the other. Before I get into any augment about who said what, the sales assistant was there and so was I with my wife for the entire fitting experience. By the way when trying two different styles of glasses on with just clear glass it is not possible for the wearer to differentiate between them unless advised so, no advice or comment on this particular difference was made by your staff.
2. My wife signed some paperwork and was not at any time told that this was a “sign your rights away contract”. More importantly no copy of this signed document was handed to us to read at a less pressured time. Must also add that the reason for being there was to get reading glasses, might be an idea for Tesco to provide a verbal warning before pushing document under your noise!
3. I asked the sales assistant before I swiped my card what the T&C were, they clearly said 28 days satisfaction or return. |

I am a pensioner and was told I would get 25% discount on the total cost of my new glasses. I found the choice of frames very limited and you aren't allowed to choose frames from the Tesco web site to try on. The stores do not even know which frames they will be sent each week for their stock.
I was looking for a very light titanium frame, with thin arms but the frames available all had the fashionable wide arms. I could find nothing I wanted on display and then I noticed a reduced price display that had a perfect frame reduced to £60. But when I went to order the glasses I was told that I would not qualify for the 25% discount because the frames were too cheap. The ironic thing is that I wanted a lot of extras on my lens with varifocal, lighter & thinner, and photochromic etc so the cost actually turned out to be more because the frames were reduced in price! I don't understand the reasoning behind this marketing ploy; it is just confusing. I have ordered the glasses but next time would choose an opticians with wider choice and a clearer pricing policy. |
