This is my first review of Charnleys’ Opticians, although I have been attending here since 1989.
I don't live in Leamington Spa, but travel to Charnleys as are these are the only opticians who seem to understand my condition.
The Optometrist who I see is very patient, explains things to my level of understanding and talks through any problems which may crop up.
The eye test procedure is extremely thorough and accurate records are kept.
The reception staff are very helpful and friendly both face to face and over the phone. The dispensing staff are also professional and approachable and very knowledgeable.
I have only recently had to have a set of prescription glasses and wasn't steered to buying something that I didn't need, the staff are always looking for the best option for the customer.
I have recommended Charnleys to other members of my family as they have had problems in the past with other opticians; for example being sold very expensive glasses when a similar style and more cost effective is available. This has not been the case when visiting Charnleys, they deal with both NHS certificates and private patients.
The Optometrist I visit also picked up on a family member’s serious eye condition (it was their first eye test ever at the age of 72) and immediately placed an urgent referral; this family member has now had his sight stabilised.
I have found that all the staff take the time and consideration to treat you as an individual, you are not rushed or pushed into anything, even when it is busy. They encourage you to contact them with any issues or questions you may have.
As a new glasses user I had questions and felt quite happy to give them a call, I then popped in to get my glasses checked and found that as a new user the lenses were spot on it was just me needing to get used to them. They adjusted my glasses as they could see that they weren’t sitting quite right, this was due to me… They also then adjusted my Husband’s glasses (who is also a customer) while he waited, he’d fallen asleep with them on so they’d gotten a bit loose.
As for the environment it has a warm friendly feel to it, whilst showcasing the frames they have available. There is a wheelchair ramp available to enter the store, a member of staff will set it up when needed. There is plenty of seating available and an accessible toilet for customer use if required. Parking is available nearby either on street or in the multi storey car park. Disabled parking is also nearby again either on street or in the multi storey. Assistance Dogs are also welcomed as well as BSL Interpreters.
I would and I have recommended Charnleys to friends and family to deal with simple and complex eye issues. |

This is a good quality and local optician who take good care of my eyes and whose advice I trust. They have also been very good with my children when they came in for their first sight tests. Motivated to add my review because I so completely disagree with 'Anonymous' person below - I have always found this practice to be very friendly and welcoming and very supportive of your choice to buy elsewhere. I was hesitant to tell them that I buy my contact lenses online but they've always been very relaxed about that and given me the same good quality advice I was getting when I bought them in house. I have also frequently asked them for a copy of my prescription as I tend to lose it, and the receptionist copies it out immediately and cheerfully. |
