The service I received at Tesco Opticians Milton Keynes (Kingston) was nothing short of appalling. I have a strong prescription and therefore my sight checks are free on the NHS, but I elected to go to Tesco, where they are free for everyone, out of convenience. Unfortunately, the service and care I received was completely substandard. The optician I saw was unfriendly and unhelpful during the consultation. However, it was when I had to return a week later (they won’t let you talk to the optician on the phone, which is ridiculous) to discuss a couple of issues that came to light.
Upon my second visit, rather than take me aside to discuss my concerns, I was addressed in the waiting room. They came across like they did not know why I could possibly want to speak to them and I don’t think they even realised who I was. The reason I returned was to discuss an issue with the voucher they had prescribed, as I was taking my prescription to another store and wanted to ensure it was filled out correctly. As I have all my old prescriptions (plus based on common sense), I know categorically that they had filled the form out incorrectly. Yet they stuck to their guns and implied I was just incapable of understanding.
I then asked them a question related to my vision that I have spoken to my previous opticians about before and wanted to ensure nothing had changed. This involved clinical information that any optician should be able to give readily, plus an aspect related to vision and the law regarding driving. Not only would they not give me the clinical information I am entitled to receive, disconcertingly, they also gave me incorrect information about the law regarding vision and driving. This has since been verified to be the case by two independent opticians, plus all of the previous opticians I have seen in the last 10 years. Not only this, they also told me to ignore what I had been told by my previous opticians, despite knowing nothing of their experience and qualifications. When I questioned them about this matter they became increasingly rude and made me feel like a pest who just did not understand.
Other than this, some of the floor staff do not really seem to know what they’re doing and the waiting room is small, cramped and dark at the back of the store. I highly recommend going to Asda Opticians instead for the sake of £15 where the opticians are knowledgeable, friendly and helpful, and where the environment is open and airy. Not to mention the far superior deals they have for glasses – especially useful for strong prescriptions like mine.
Please do not ask me to email your Complaints Department. I did so already on 20 June and again on 5 July when I received no response. I am yet to receive even an acknowledgement that the complaint has been received. |

I had 2 pairs with Tesco in Slough, & 2 pairs with Tesco in Milton Keynes 2 years later. Base price was very cheap.
The opthalmologists' measurement seemed rather crude in comparison to all others I've ever used.
There was no proper quality verification when the glasses were given to the customers, and the paper work (lack of it) does not give customers the means to prove what was ordered. However, lacking paper work was also true of Specsavers.
The optics quality was poor. My latest pair was supposed to focus at a distance of 28", but it actually focus at 40". My driving glasses just doesn't seem right even though I can use them to see distant things, but again there was no verification procedure when I queried with Tesco, making it difficult to trust them. |
