I had to drop a faeces sample off for analysis today. My IBD nurse had advised me that I could drop the sample off at a pharmacy in Coventry. (My GP uses George Elliot lab for analysis so my consultant at Walsgrave can’t access the results , therefore any samples/blood tests have to be dropped off in Coventry so that they can go to Walsgrave). I rang the pharmacy to check that I could take the sample in today and was reassured by a lovely lady that this was the case. However today when I delivered the sample I was told by a member of staff, in a very loud voice that all of the customers waiting heard, that faeces samples could not be accepted. I felt so embarrassed and humiliated. The staff member did eventually take the sample after I explained that I’d been reassured it was ok by another member of staff yesterday and that it was not possible to take it to my GP. I would have like to have been treated with some discretion and dignity. It is never easy handing a faeces sample in.
