Last week at the Fitzallan surgery, the receptionist made a cup of tea for an elderly gentleman in the waiting room. I thought this was very kind of them as he obviously lived on his own. I do not remember their name but they had just returned from somewhere sunny an d warm, I saw a GP there this week-they were very reassuring as I was worried about some symptoms.

I have been attending regular appointments with the practice nurse, once a month for support and advice about weight loss. The nurse has been able to guide me in the right direction and has been non judgemental about my lifestyle. They have offered great advice and encouragement in loosing weight, something I have struggled with for many years. I have also seen this nurse on past occasions, for example my daughters vaccinations. My daughter was very distressed and was a very anxious child before even entering the room. The nurse was very understanding and kept very calm, even when my daughter was kicking and screaming. The nurse didn't just see her as another vaccination but as someone's little girl and was very sensitive to our feelings as parents. As you can imagine we was very anxious and upset seeing our little girl like this. The nurse gave great aftercare advice and made it known that if we was concerned their door was always open for further advice. I have also been to see this nurse in the past for personal issues that was out of my control. Unfortunately they were limited to the care they could provide me. I had come to the practice scared and feeling alone. They spent the time I needed to sit and talk with me and helped me to take a step closer to recovery. Although they couldn't help me as I needed specialist care they didn't just turn me away with leaflets and numbers. They phoned the service themself, spoke on my behalf and got me an appointment straight away. They helped to explain something that I was too distraught to speak about. The nurse also called me a week later to ensure that I was ok and to offer further support and advice if I needed it. They went the extra mile and made me feel like I wasn't just another patient on another day, but treated me as an individual. Something as a patient I believe is important. This practice nurse is a asset to the team. I couldn't thank them enough for their continued support as a nurse. If I have a negative experience in reception (rare occasions) the nurse always lifts me up and gives me the faith back I need to return. I would definitely recommend this nurse to any patient visiting.
