Repeatedly mess up referrals, either send to wrong hospital area, don't send at all or recently taken 9 days to type up a referral letter. Doctors don't know what hospitals offer what. You can never get to see the same doctor or get an appointment, unless you fight for an emergency appt. online appt is only for rubbish times and not for main doctors. Always running late. Reception are unhelpful, boarder line rude. People are leaving to join Ardern house as they are sick of the service at New mills

I am very sorry to hear about the bad experience you had with the practice. I would like to assure you that we follow correct procedures in referring patients; however pathways frequently change due to commissioning issues which are outside of our control. In terms of the appointment availability, we provide a wide range of online pre-bookable appointments, and we encourage patients to ring early each morning for emergency appointments. We work very hard to meet our patient demand and we endeavour to ensure that our patients’ needs are met. We work in a very demanding and hard pressured environment but wellbeing and welfare our patients are and have always been our priority. Please do not hesitate to contact me directly, should you wish to discuss it further. Kind Regards, Maggie Choras Practice Manager

I went to the surgery to request an HRT prescription to alleviate symptoms of menopause. I had previously had a terrible experience at Hayfield with the male doctor there so I asked for a female doctor. I was very disappointed. She kept telling me HRT increased the risk of heart disease and breast cancer but could give no figures or point to research when I asked by what percentage so I could evaluate my risk - I know it is a tiny increase. She said that patches were the best but were unavailable but She didn’t know how long one prescription of gel would last for. And did not really tell me why gel was not as good as patches. I left with a prescription but with no real confidence - and I don’t feel informed. I asked if there were any other options for me to talk to who really knows the subject and was told that another doctor has more gynaecology experience so I will try again. Surely the doctors should know more about/ be better trained in menopause treatment as half the population go through it?

Good Afternoon, I am very sorry to learn of your dissatisfaction with the service provided by us. Sett Valley Medical Centre actively encourages feedback as a means of continually improving its services. I therefore encourage you to contact me directly so that I can look into the specific details in order to respond to you in detail. Prescribing HRT at the moment is extremely difficult and complex. Locally all HRT patches are unavailable and oral HRT increases the risk of thrombosis. Previously gel HRT hasn’t been widely used within the locality. New research is being published all the time which means that it is very hard to give precise risks to patients – for example the current NICE guidance gives a different assessment of risks than this recent MHRA information. It may be useful for you to look at www.nhs.uk-conditions which also has a lot of info about risks etc. I hope this offers you some insight to difficulties in prescribing HRT; however please do contact me directly should you wish to discuss this further. Yours Faithfully, Maggie Choras Practice Manager
