Dangerous, dangerous practice! My father developed facial cellulitis/erysipelas (skin infection) with rapidly progressing inflammation towards the eye (risk of orbital cellulitis and potential for permanent vision loss). I was advised to send a picture and doctor would get back to me by the end of the day (on a Friday). I was a GP trainee myself and NICE guidelines clearly state same day review/action or hospital referral if risk of orbital cellulitis. Not sure if receptionist passed the message on or doctor ignored the picture. By late afternoon he was much worse given Hx of diabetes - no call back, not able to get through myself after I finished work. Given the complicated laws around a doctor prescribing medication for his own family member - I ended up in A&E and he was triaged as 'urgent review' and given a long course of antibiotics. I put him at risk of contracting COVID (high risk as he is diabetic) due to the GPs incompetency. Shame on the practice - had this been an elderly gentleman with no medically trained family, he would have most certainly lost his vision. Don't play with people's health and lives and pull yourself together. Needs a massive overhaul and review! Wake up CCG. I've now left the practice and taken my parents with me - best decision I've ever made. No longer need to be patronised by Dr H and his well trained (rude) staff. My advice to everyone, contact the Clinical Commissioning Group for Bradford otherwise nothing will change! This is coming from a qualified doctor.
