I visited the doctor several times regarding my daughters ears and the amount of wax they had, the doctor continually stated “no intervention is needed” and “put oil in to loosen the wax” and then a few weeks later yellow pus was coming out of my daughters ear (was treated with oral antibiotics) upon the follow up appointment I was told again nothing needed to be done and made to feel stupid. My daughter continued with pain in her ear due to the wax and infection. I had to eventually go to a private doctors in York city centre who were amazing with her and microsuction the wax out of her ear, after the procedure which was very upsetting for my daughter the private doctor confirmed she has a severe infection and inflamed ear and oral antibiotics would not have worked. She was treated with a ear spray and told to give medicine for the pain. This is the only bad experience I have had with the surgery but I worry to think what would have happened if I hadn’t intervened myself. |

Firstly, I am not a patient of this practice but my elderly (competent, mobile and independent) mother is. I write this review after listening to her many complaints about the practice and its staff.
One of her main concerns is how rude the reception staff can be. They do not take into account the fact that she uses public transport to get to and from the surgery - even though she explains this each time she calls. She feels that everything is frequently too much trouble for the reception staff (although we can appreciate that they are busy). The appointments offered rarely fit with the timings she requires in order to continue to be independent. The reception staff fail to take on board her explanation for specific appointment times (to fit in with the bus schedule).
The reception staff also seem unable to accommodate appointments which the doctor/nurse has requested with the patient , e.g. repeat blood tests, follow-up consultation the doctor has requested, etc.
As a diabetic, I believed that my mum should be seen at least once a year. This seems to manage to get into the diaries for approximately every 14-15 months! Surely, this is a failing!
Separately, I believe that she and my late father (a former patient) received NO help once my father was diagnosed with terminal cancer. The palliative care provided can only be described as "appalling to non-existent".
I would welcome the chance to discuss my concerns with the practice manager. |
