Rang the surgery at 5.40pm today 3 April 2017 as I had ran out of my medication. The receptionist was extremely helpful and organised emergency medication to be collected from Hepworth chemists (all done within ten minutes). So so impressed with the receptionist and would just like to thank the practise for employing such a kind, caring and helpful member of staff. Just wished I had taken a note of their name. Thank you so much, they definitely deserve recognition for this small but very effective gesture.

My daughter was suffering from aching joints and bones in her body for 2 weeks more. It was getting worse and she had stopped her Games and PE lessons at school for more than a week. I had given her pain killers and they didn't help. On Monday morning, she couldn't walk properly when she woke up, one of her leg was hurting really bad. She had sudden onsets of headache as well as the joint/ bone pain for no obvious reason. I am a working mother and had to go to work, and my daughter could still go to school if she can sit down, she was fine. I tried to book an appointment for her, but there was none until 2 weeks later. I asked if we could come to sit and wait, because she was in pain. I was told that we need to be in the surgery within 30 minutes, otherwise we won't be allowed to sit and wait. I explained that I needed to go to school to get her and that would be more than 30 minutes, but the receptionist did not give us any chance. After school when I collected her from school, her leg was hurting a lot and I rang the practice again. This time the receptionist said the sit and wait time is within 10 minutes we had to arrived at the practice. I could not understand why this time was cut short from arriving within 30 minutes to 10 minutes. Anyway we made it to the practice in 10 minutes. The time was 17:03, and there was no one in the waiting room at all. Only me and my daughter were waiting and saw a doctor, who was most unkind. My daughter was only seen for 2 minutes and we were sent out if the surgery. The doctor said we need to make another appointment to have her leg check thoroughly again. I tried to tell the doctor about her sudden onset of headache and joint pains, but I was told that these were not emergency and the doctor would not attend to these problems. The doctor said my daughter sprained her ankle that's why it hurt, and that was it. The doctor had not asked about the history of her problem, she had not sprained her ankle, and her sporadic pain started without any cause, which was why I was worried and could not wait 2 more weeks for her to be seen. A small child suffered from sporadic headaches and joint and bone pains for already 2 weeks, and continued to get worse would be something needing urgent attention. If a child in pain of no obvious reason could not be treated as emergency, then what are their emergency appointment for. If someone was to suffer worse would have gone to A&E, not to a GP practice. Also all the time when we were in the practice, there was no other patients in the waiting room at all, and we went inside the surgery for only 2 minutes and came out, and we gathered our stuff before we went, still no other patients were there. The practice was supposed to open until 18:00. If it was fully booked, I could see any patient at all from 17:03 to 17:10, when we were inside the practice, only seen 2 people came to collect their prescription. We could have been offered an appointment when I rang when there was no patient at all.

My experience of this practice has been positive. I am a new patient enrolling with the practice in December 2016 after moving up from southern England. As a pensioner, 74 years of age, I find that I require medical assistance, far more frequently than was the case. This makes access to clinicians very important to me. The appointment system fulfills my normal requirements and upon those occasions when I require an urgent appointment, I have been able to get one, quickly, sometimes immediately and always within two hours. I regard this as excellent. Regarding home visits, my wife collapsed following sickness and subsequent dehydration, a doctor from the practice arrived reasonably shortly afterward and dealt with the problem. This was most re-assuring, particularly as I had called the ambulance service; was informed that there would be a delay, and was advised to contact my doctor! My appointments with doctors and other clinicians has been efficient and, as far as my understanding permits, successful in their outcomes. I have had several referrals to consultants and I have been able to select which hospital to have surgery at. I appreciate that choice. The general level of courtesy and efficiency at the practice appears good and I have no negative comments regarding administration.
