Old Trafford Medical Practice

Following brief encounters with this surgery in the past, I have managed to painstakingly (literally) avoid visiting, but unfortunately I’ve had to experience the ‘service’ provided by the staff at this medical practice on several occasions in a short space of time recently. Firstly, there’s a worrying disillusionment amongst the secretarial staff that because they can access medical records / work in this environment, they have a credible medical opinion; I appreciate it must be a challenging role but this is a far cry from the reality of their skill set. I also understand that there isn’t a bottomless pit of money in the NHS so training and upskilling non-clinical staff isn’t a priority but these workers lack sensitivity, empathy and compassion - intrinsic behaviours that can’t be instilled through training. Never in my life have I been spoken to as rudely as is repeatedly the case when i call / visit this surgery. This culture needs to change.

Thank you for providing this feedback, we are concerned that your experiences at the practice have not been a positive one. All of our team have received triage training and within their role they signpost patients to the most appropriate service. We understand that often this can be seen as the reception team acting as clinicians, however, as you point out, we do not have unlimited resources and what we do have must be used effectively. We also actively up-skill our reception team into various roles. If you feel you could provide more information and assist us in bettering the surgery, please contact Hannah at hannah.cooke@nhs.net to join our Patient Participation Group which meets every 6 months to discuss such issues.

Waiting for a simple medical letter from the practice for the fifth month. Went in and phoned over 10 times now. Most of the receptionists are polite and try to help but the practice clearly does not work as it should, internal communication issues.
