Very very difficult to get an appointment, have to wait 7 days to get a perscription and that;s if you are lucky and the have bothered to send the perscription off.

Well yet again another poor review of Owen road surgery. On Friday morning i popped into the surgery to ask for an appointment to see a doctor but was told once again that no doctors were available at this practice until the 15th August. I asked if there were any doctors available at another practice sooner say maybe at the scale hall practice but i was told that there weren't any until the 13th August and so i walked upto Dalton square practice and asked if they had any appointments and low and behold they said yes would Thursday the 25th July be ok at the scale hall practice. So the secret to getting an appointment to see a doctor seems to be don't ask the receptionist at Owen road surgery but ask at another surgery. Owen road surgery are not doing themselves any favours to try to improve patient trust.

I am writing this on behalf of my 80 year old father who is devastated in how difficult it is for him to get an appointment at his own surgery. I phoned for a quick 2 minute blood test for PSA as he had just recieved an appointment to see the Consultant Urologist for his cancer. I told reception (after waiting 17 minutes 26 seconds to answer) and was told there was not one appointment in his own surgery. He was given one in Meadowbanks, the other side of Lancaster. Luckily for my father I could take him, what if this was an 80 year old with no help to get there, would either cost a fortune for a taxi or would have to cancel, if this was the case, what would happen about his cancer. I then recieved a call a couple of days later to say the Nurse was off sick (stress no doubt) and had to rebook it, this was an ordeal in itself to get one in time for this Fridays hospital appointment, but managed to get one 4 days before his hospital appt. Trying to get an appointment with your own surgery to see a doctor or nurses is like entering the lottery. I get so stressed if I have to make an appointment for my dad, husband or myself, as I know it will be at another surgery. It is ridiculous, this merging of surgeries is a shambles and I pray they go back to the way they were. Owen Road was a fabulous Surgery, now it is no longer our surgery, at least that is how it now feels. Trying to get through on the phone is an ordeal in itself, but then to be told you have to go to another surgery miles away and see a doctor who knows nothing about your health problems is so stressful.
