Firstly I would like to thank you for your comments, the practice appreciates feedback on what we are doing well and what we can improve on.
At present we are being covered by a nursing team. The nurses are of different grades and perform different duties, some cover all aspects of the post but some do not carry out certain procedures such as cervical smears, family planning, travel vaccinations, childrens immunisations. This means that the reception staff will ask all patients why they are coming in to be seen to ensure they are given an appointment with the appropriate nurse.
All members of the practice team regularly receive training on confidentiality and we all follow strict protocols and guidelines.
I discussed your comments with my staff and have advised them to explain the reason why they need to know this information, also if a patient is reluctant to give a reason to offer a routine appointment or telephone consultation with one of the GPs instead.
If you would like to discuss this matter further please do not hesitate to contact me either by email or telephone mary.brady@livgp.nhs.uk 0151 546 3867
