I have found the relatively new system of telephone assessment ,when you ring to book an appointment, works really well. In my experience if you really need to be seen by a GP that day they are able to book you an appointment. A helpful, practical &effective service.

I went to order my medication for my gout. The receptionist informs me I can't order it cos I haven't had it for six months. She says 'if I put this through to the doctor he'll just reject it because he'll say what have you been managing on the past six months' I said 'it's gout sometimes you go years without an attack but I have one now' she says 'it doesn't matter you still need to see a GP' I say 'can I see a GP then' she says 'call tomorrow' I say 'it takes 40 phone calls to get through it's impossible' she says 'ah come down at 8.30 tomorrow and ask for an appointment and I can definitely give you one then' I say 'but I'm standing right in front of you now, can't you book me in for tomorrow' 'No, you have to come down and ask!'.this isn't about being under resources this is just a moronic system..so now I have to take up a GP's time tomorrow when I don't need it, taking time away from someone who does need to be seen and I need to take a receptionist off the phone again to book the appointment!!! People tell my wife to go and see a doctor about the pain in her hands...but it's nigh on impossible to get an appointment. They only let you book an appointment at 8.30 but then everyone else is phoning so you get an engaged tone 30 times on the trot. Bridge view is by far the worst GP practice I've ever attended.

We are very sorry that you have had such a difficult experience with us, especially over a medication problem. We can try and find if any of our care navigators remember this contact, but it would be a lot more effective if you are able to contact your usual surgery, explain that you have made a comment on NHS Choices and the Practice Manager has asked that they arrange for you to be called back.
