Having recently moved to Witney from the Idle of Wight I was very pleased to be able to get a face to face appointment with no problem On the Isle if Wight we only were offered a 10 minute phone call What can be assessed by that is beyond me My thanks to Everyone at Cogges surgery for making myself and my wife so welcome Thank you Ken Mills

I moved to Cogges Surgery when I found out I was expecting in January. Since then they have always been exceptional in they’re delivery of care. My GP has always got time for me and offered incredible support throughout. I have never struggled to get an appointment and the reception staff have always been polite, helpful and patient -particularly when I’ve needed advice on the most suitable health care service I need. My most recent experience was with the nurse who was cheerful and reassuring in her approach, and as with all health care professionals I’ve needed, explained what was happening clearly and helpfully.

Uncaring and unhelpful treatment. I have personally experienced a complete lack of respect, kindness and compassion this week. I have recently had major surgery and am unable to mobilise or weightbear. Despite this, they have refused to send a sick note to me unless I send a stamped addressed envelope to them first! The nearest post box is half a mile away so I can't currently get a sick note or apply for benefits! Yesterday another receptionist informed me they may or may not hand on my email to a GP as they were " too busy ". I've been asked to supply a GP letter to benefits people as evidence of my health and its effects. My named GP refused to write this, telling me it is not their job to write such letters and they are "too busy". This will create a real problem in accessing benefits at a time when i am in considerable pain, recovering from surgery and don't have an income. I've had some wonderful support from this surgery in the distant past (i don't often use GP services) but I'm reeling in shock from the poor treatment I've received from Cogges GP Practice recently. This is an unacceptable way to treat patients.

I am sorry that you felt that the service you received recently from our practice was unacceptable. The receptionist and GP remember the telephone call you made to the practice asking that we produce a letter for you urgently. We would be happy to discuss this with you further as it was an upsetting experience for our practice team too. Please contact the practice manager Chris Wilkinson either by leaving a message on 01993 700505 x4 if she is unavailable, or by email to c.wilkinson@nhs.net. Alternatively, you are welcome to make a formal complaint so that we can investigate and respond to each of your comments directly. Information about our NHS approved Complaints Process can be found on our website www.coggesgpsurgery.org.uk or paper copies of our Complaints leaflet are available. As you may appreciate, NHS budgets and resources are very overstretched and GP practices are only required (and funded) to produce specific reports and certificates under their NHS contract. Whilst we try to accommodate patient requests for letters, claim forms and other certificates (and make an appropriate charge for the time taken by the GP and secretary to produce the correspondence where appropriate) we do not feel it is unreasonable to ask that patients supply a stamped addressed envelope for these items if it is not possible to arrange collection from the practice. I will ask that this matter is discussed at one of our Patient Participation Group meetings so that we can review the message that we give to patients to ensure that it is clear and helpful.
