I have been registered at this practice for 4 years and it is truly fantastic. The GPs are caring, compassionate and understanding and through all my experiences the reception staff have been nothing but courteous and polite. Over the past couple of months I have been coming more frequently to the practice and I have never been treated with anything but the most kind and understanding attitude by my GP. My doctor is willing to give their time and patience to help me, and I really feel that they understand my issues. An open and honest approach is given and an acknowledgment of therapist-patient relationship trusted. I have been completely supported and his willingness to meet on a regular basis (even when I know the NHS is facing its most challenging times yet) has meant the world. Thank you, thank you. A truly fantastic practice.

We made it through the snow, and the treacherous road conditions into the surgery, and it was worth it to find the Christmas present waiting for us. What more can one say but thank you? I would have liked to have said this to you personally but publicly will do. Thank you for taking the time and effort to say something. Thank you for saying it is such a way that will give a positive charge to the whole team. Thank you for seeing the care that lies between the process which so constrains us. When you are tired and full of cold and coughing as much as the waiting room, it is such a boost to know that the passion you put into your job is seen and valued. We know we can do better, and are not the sort team that will sit on its laurels, but to have a message like this gives you the warm glow that gets up, out and off on a black cold winter’s morning to serve our community. Thank you. Dr Robin Carr

By all accounts the GPs at this practice are great, if you can get to see them. Unfortunately, you would usually go through the reception staff for this; I have to agree with other reviewers that they are just horrible and it is quite upsetting. Generally one is only ringing their GP because they are unwell, and the last thing they want to deal with is a nasty, unhappy person on the other end of the line. Not only are the reception staff aggressive and unpleasant, they quickly cut you off and talk over you, refuse to release urgent appointments (without even asking what the issue is), insinuate that your problems are unimportant, and repeatedly try and force you to see a nurse instead. I feel like a maniac that rings every day, rather than somebody who sees the GP once in a blue moon. I'm arranging access to the online booking system so that I can avoid dealing with these people. It's just not acceptable, especially for a designated surgery for several Oxford colleges, where young people will be calling and delicate things such as mental health issues are common reasons to see a GP.

At the end of a busy year it is very hard to see something like this and not be moved. Clearly this was a very deeply unhappy person who has chosen to make their feelings known publicly rather than specifically. I know each and every member of our team, and know the reception staff well enough to understand they must have been in a very difficult place to have triggered what is written above. Aggressive and unpleasantness are not characteristics we look for in receptionists and the role of the go between is a very difficult one. The demand on the NHS is such that we, like our other primary care colleagues, are now faced with trying to manage an increase in demand with fewer and fewer people and resources to meet that demand. We offer appointments with the nurses where we think this may be appropriate and affords the chance to be seen sooner. This is especially the case with our advanced nurse practitioner. “Nurses” are one of the health services most valuable assets, be they as paramedics in ambulances, or experienced district nurses, triage nurses in A&E or nurse practitioners in GP surgeries. They play a most valuable part in today’s health service. Gone are the days when the doctor was the gatekeeper to all services and was the first person to meet and would then draft in other members of the primary health care team. That model into which I started in the 1980’s was done away with in the 90’s. It is not unusual for reception staff to ask if there is someone else who might have the right skill set to manage the presenting complaint, rather than always defaulting to the GP. There are now a wide number of conditions and issues which nursing staff and HCA’s are trained to respond to. Training is something we always look at and receptionists are no exception. These comments have been seen by the whole surgery and we will use them as a learning opportunity. Dr Robin Carr

The best surgery to be registered at. The GPs are very considerate and make sure they follow up on the treatment. I regret relocating outside of Oxford, haven't found a practice as good.
