Took me 8 months to get an appointment after several cancellations and they didnt even let me know about the cancellations. Then when I finally got my scan they didnt even let me know the results when I contacted them the receptionist just said im going to have to call following morning to get an appointment and start the process all over again. What a disgrace. I cant believe they can get away with this.

A couple of weeks ago I telephoned Lakeside Surgery on behalf of my 69 year old husband who is hard of hearing. He usually has his ears syringed once and sometimes twice a year because of a build up of wax. When I requested an appointment I was told that the surgery no longer carry out routine ear syringes and that my husband was advised to put oil in his ear three times a day for 14 days. I was also advised to pick up an information leaflet from the surgery explaining the whole procedure. The lady also said that he was required to see the pharmacist and I asked if the pharmacist would be doing the syringe. She said no. If he was experiencing pain, bleeding or discomfort after 14 days then he could make an appointment to see a doctor. My husband called into the surgery yesterday and spoke with a member of staff who knew nothing about this procedure and gave him an appointment at Woods End for this evening (28/8/19). Again the nurse wasn't aware that routine ear syringes were not being carried out. Needless to say, we are confused.

Dear Patient I am really sorry to read about the confusion we have caused you and your husband. We do carry out ear syringing but we have recently changed how we deal with ear syringing to be in line with national guidance. The first step is always to oil the ears for 14 days. We have an information leaflet which explains the process which is available in the surgery and will be shortly available on our website. If your hearing is still impaired after 14 days then we advise patients to see their GP fir further advice and management. You do not have to see a pharmacist but Pharmacy's are able to advise and support you and/or your husband. If your husband experiences pain, discharge or bleeding from the ear, sudden deafness or buzzing, foreign bodies in the ear or dizziness then please contact us as you will need advice from a GP. Woodsend also provides ear syringing but the advice given to you should have been the same. I have shared your comments with the Patient Services Manager to ensure that the whole reception team are aware of this change. Many thanks Emma Down Hub Manager Lakeside Healthcare Corby
