I recently had a letter from the surgery pointing out that I had not had an asthma checkup for some time, so last Saturday for my morning walk I walked across the University of Reading campus to the surgery to book an appointment. To my surprise and delight the recepionist said the Practice Nurse had just received a cancellation and so I had my checkup there and then.
The Practice Nurse was very thorough and checked my height and weight and blood pressure and, most importantly, did a lung pressure test. This last test was repeated several times and the best reading was recorded.
At the end of the asthma checkup, the Practice Nurse checked on the computer to see if there was anything else that needed attention. As I had not had a routine blood test for some time we agreed that I should have one, so this was arranged. The Practice Nurse very carefully checked to see if any special tests should be made and included a request for specific tests to be made in connection with my amylaze value. As it has been rather low in the past I am pleased that she did that. |
