As I am new to the area and a student I am unfamiliar with if there are minor injuries/ walk ins in the area.I Visited the other day as I had an issue and was worried in regards to possible infection, and wasn’t sure where to go. So i went to reception , explained my issue, was told that emergency appointments don’t start until 430 by one receptionist, which is understandable. I understand my request might have been a bother but I wondered if there was a practice nurse who might be able to have a quick look, and just advise me on what to do. Or even someone tell me if I was updated on my jabs etc. I didn’t want to waste anyone’s time. Then, another receptionist came in and asked what the issue was, in quite a demanding way. I explained that I was worried, and she simply said well if you were really worried why didn’t you come earlier (I had things I had to attend and was told by a family member who is a nurse that it would be ok for me to go later in the day if I had to). All I can say is she spoke in a very aggressive manner, and she made me feel extremely guilty, and uncomfortable as she insinuated that I was- to put it simply- stupid to have not come earlier, and that clearly I wasn’t that worried! Additionally, I hadn’t changed my address since July but I hadn’t needed to go to the doctor, and what’s more I wasn’t aware this would cause any issues. Yes the receptionist huffed and seemed to get annoyed at that as well. In summary, I felt picked on and that I was simply a nuisance.

The doctor has always been very helpful and polite and has dealt constructively with my main problems: multiple sclerosis (I am also an out-patient at the National Hospital for Neurology, Queen Square); and high blood pressure. I have followed all his recommendations, which have been consistently successful. I have no complaints at all about him or the Gower Street Practice.

This practice is not able to care for patients with chronic illnesses in my point of view. When I tried to make accommodations to make my more bearable I am not supported by the the practice. I have been struggling to speak english and remember things since a injury that is being treated by the the practice - yet I feel that I am being talked over and not allowed to speak when I tried to voice my concern. They are bad at sending referrals on time and they have to be asked several times. The practice also charges extravagant fees for letters.
