Travelling in France I realised that I had left most of my Insulin syringes in a hotel frig 170 miles away. Being about to board a ferry home I did not have time to drive back to get them. I telephoned the surgery on the Thursday evening and asked if an emergency prescription could be raised for my collection on the Saturday. Calmly and efficiently the receptionist took my details and assured me all would be sorted. Arriving home late on Friday and using my last drops of the insulin I had. First thing Saturday morning, I went to the local chemist and there was mt prescription of replacement insulin waiting for me What wonderful service. A great job by the receptionist and thence all concerned.

I had visited the surgery in person to request a repeat prescription on a Monday morning. The following Monday, I went to the local chemist who informed me that they had never received a prescription. As it was for insulin, I was quite concerned as I had run out. I immediately phoned the surgery to enquire what had happened. The receptionist very calmly asked me to hold for a few moments and within 10 seconds, she had identified that the prescription had been sent electronically to the pharmacy the previous Tuesday, the day after I had requested it. She told me not to worry and she would sort it out by phoning the pharmacy. Within 5 minutes, the receptionist phoned me back and informed me that all was fine, the pharmacy had the prescription and had my insulin ready immediately. I went back into the pharmacy and lo and behold, my prescription was ready I must commend the receptionist for sorting out my problem and lowering my anxiety in a calming and efficient manner. The whole episode only took a few minutes and she was so helpful and friendly . However, I have always found all of the staff at the medical centre friendly, helpful and efficient.efficient.

"Please write your name, dob and medication on a piece of paper and bring it to the surgery" we don't accept any other method of communication! Obviously I know this is a complete untruth - given that I've been a patient for 5 years and have never handed over a sheet of paper previously. I wonder if next time it will only be accepted in cursive writing!

Thank you for your comments. There appears to be some confusion regarding the methods that can be used to request medication from the surgery and if this has been generated by the practice then we apologise. Prescription requests can be made electronically via Patient on line access. This method is the safest and quickest method. Patients do need to register for an on line account which will enable them to request medication, make appointments and view aspects of their medical records remotely. If patients have not registered for on line access (or do not wish to use this method) then we are happy to receive medication requests using the right hand side of the prescription form, or in writing if patients do not have a form. If patients use the latter method we do ask them to provide DOB, name of medication and address so that we can identify the patient in our system. We do not accept prescription requests over the telephone to protect and maintain patient safety. Please do not hesitate to contact the Practice Manager if you would like to discuss any point further.
