Tranquil Cross

Our son who has severe autism and very challenging behaviour has been at Tranquil Cross for exactly a year. In that time we have seen him grow from being withdrawn and anxious and totally reliant on us to bring him out of his shell to a confident happy and engaged young man. The staff at Tranquil Cross really seem to understand how to get the best from him.They go above and beyond to keep him busy and occupied in a huge range of activities which help him remain calm and less anxious. When he arrived at Tranquil Cross he was used to his day ending very early and now,as is appropriate for his age he has a range of evening activities which he loves such as a local disco.He has so many opportunities to access the community and lead a more full and varied life.The high levels of support and dedication of the staff mean that this is supported living as it really should be. The staff are always so open and transparent with us and we still feel fully involved in our sons’ life. They really care about his health and have successfully managed to maintain his weight at a healthy level against a background of his fixation with food. His sleep patterns have improved and he takes regular exercise. He is always happy when we visit and clearly has a great relationship with the staff and he has flourished in an environment that feels like his own home but with carefully tailored support. The input of the Psychologist attached to Green Light is also really helpful and the team approach to implementing her recommendations has had real benefits. All these factors means that our son is not ‘ in care ‘ but being cared for so that he can lead a fulfilled and happy life inspite of his disability.
