Our mother is a recent service user at Kerria Court and has been treated with courtesy and kindness from the start. Staff show respect for her individual preferences throughout the day and night eventho at times her behaviour can be challenging. All the staff seem to take time to chat with her and listen to her despite the fact that she is very repetitive. She has already made attachments to many of the carers.
From what I have seen the quality of the food is good and there are lots of options at each mealtime. I also noticed that staff responded to mom's requests for snacks/ice cream at other times also.
Her ensuite room has a little kitchenette and is comfortably furnished with some of her own items from home being incorporated. She is safe 24/7 and has company around the clock if she so wishes. Other times she likes to spend time on her own quietly and she is free to do so, without being obliged to stay in the communal area if she prefers.
Visitors are welcome and we have been happy to see that eventho we are with mom, staff still pop in to see if she needs anything.
We had reservations about Kerria Court at first, but I think this was more to do with our own sadness at the situation we find ourselves in and of course, we would prefer if our mother could be in her own home. It takes a little while to get used to a new environment and routine but we are happy with the transition so far.
Thanks to all the staff. for helping us through this difficult time for all concerned. |
