My mother was admitted to Whitstable amp; Tankerton Hospital, as she had developed cellulitis on her lower legs, which had become ulcerated. She was initially treated at the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford and had been out for 2 weeks, before complications set in. By the time mum was referred to the Wamp;T she was very frail, so physical rehabilitation was impossible. After the first week, she developed a chest infection, which was no reflection on the hospital and became weaker and weaker, before passing away on the 16th of August. But before she lapsed into unconsciousness, she was full of praise for the quality of nursing and kindness of the staff, an observation, I would wholeheartedly agree with. One of my family, who is a Ward Sister at the William Harvey visited her twice during this period commented on how impressed she was with the level of care. At the end of the day, they did all they could for her and more, so posting some bitter one star review would be unfair, untrue and will not bring her back.

Dear Nick
Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback about the care your mother received during her stay with us at Whitstable and Tankerton hospital. Please accept our sincere condolences for your loss.
The staff on the ward thought how remarkable and brave your mother was and how she carried herself with the upmost dignity to the end. She was clearly distressed and in pain on arrival to the ward, which we very soon manged to get significantly controlled. We got to know her and her needs very well and felt a great sense of pride in giving her the care she deserved. We have been left with fond memories of her polite and gracious attitude in return to the staff as she was so appreciative of everything we did for her. And despite the high volume of patients we care for we never forget a single one.
The team are very touched to hear that your mother praised them for being kind and providing a high standard of care.
Best wishes

In early 2018, my partner was taken into the Whitstable and Tankerton hospital. He had a terminal illness and died there on March 11th. The treatment and care were exceptional. All of the staff, from the health care assistants, nurses, sisters and doctors made sure that he had his dignity and support during a difficult time for him and the family. On his last weekend, when he was having palliative care, the wrap around care was wonderful. It is an excellent cottage hospital and the staff care passionately for the patients. They have a challenging job during a time of cuts to services, but as a family, we will always be grateful for the love they showed. This facility is vital for the local community. We will never forget the staff on Friends ward and if ever it is under threat, we will be the first to shout out and support it. This is the NHS at its best.
