Cavendish Hospital

As this is a drop in clinic, myself and a friend went for our contraceptive pills. We were greeted by a receptionist that was rude from the off. They did not say “hello” just “have you made an appointment?” To which I explained we hadn’t but having been many times before know it is a drop in clinic to which we got the reply “we’re fully booked tonight, what is it you need?” Having explained we and for a pill we were understanding that there was one nurse on duty but didn’t mind waiting. We were then rudely told the next appointment was on a Thursday in November which neither of us could make. We said we would try our GPs again but they always refer us to this clinic. On our way out the receptionist said “if it’s chlamydia you need testing for there’s kits outside the door”. By this point we’d had enough and just said “that’s not what we need.” And left. Both myself and my friend are disappointed in this service as we’ve been many time before without an appointment and never minded having to wait an hour to be seen. We’ve never been spoken to with such little respect before and someone sighing at us every time we speak. Certainly won’t be returning again.

I am extremely sorry to hear you have had a negative experience at our Cavendish clinic and am very disappointed to hear that you did not feel you were treated with respect, or that you did not get the service you required. This is not our usual standard of care and we would like the opportunity to investigate why this has happened. Please be assured that your experience will be raised with all of our staff working within our clinics. Our Cavendish clinic does not usually provide walk in appointments, unless there is an emergency, but we do have alternative walk in clinics around the county. We do also provide home testing kits for chlamydia which our staff promotes to all of our young people coming to clinic. I briefly left the care of DCHS whilst under the care of the Maternity team at SHH. We worked particularly hard to try and gain some control of my blood glucose during this time. I was then transferred back to the care of DCHS, After much difficulty gaining control of my blood sugars. my Diabetes Specialist Nurse introduced me to Florence. I have found this to be an invaluable service I was struggling with remebering to test at certain times of the day. I now get a text message from Flo every morning to remind me to check my blood glucose levels before I drive to work as I do not eat breakfast, and every evening to check my blood glucose levels before bed, correcting if necessary. In doing this I have managed to self titrate the doses of my basal insulin and with close supervision of my Diabetes Specialist Nurse we have been able to accurately titrate the carb/insulin ratio of my bolus insulin. This has resulted in much better overall glycaemic control and much more efficient use of my time with the nurse.>

I was having problems keeping my blood sugar levels down so was offered the florence system which prompts me on my mobile at set times to send in my readings. Not only has my sugar levels improved but I feel healthier it keeps me focused and it makes me keep to better set times which has been so very helpful for my health I love this system thank you Flo>
