I was admitted to fordingbridge hospital to recover from a hip replacement following a fall. All the staff were very friendly, polite, respectful and looked after my every need. The ward was cleaned thoroughly every day. The food was just perfect and when I had an appointment in Southampton hospital I was given a packed lunch to take with me and was cooked a meal in the evening as I had missed out at lunchtime. Although there are set visiting hours, when family were unable to visit during those times the hospital staff were flexible and accommodated family as long as it was not during meal time. I really cannot rate this hospital highly enough, although I was desperate to get home, I was sad to leave all the staff and miss the delicious food.

My Mother stayed at Ford Ward [bed 2/1] for 3 weeks from the 13th May 2015 and I have nothing but praise for the way in which she was treated. She has no complaints herself about the staff or the facilities and in fact when it came down to it was reluctant to leave and change to the Re-ablement unit. The staff were polite, helpful and attentive. Their patience was endless, not sure how they managed to keep their cool all of the time. If I had to be in hospital, that's where I want to be. Thanks to you all from me, my three sisters and of course my mother.

Apart from 2 or 3 nurses a sister and a caring porter there was a total lack of good caring nursing. After 3 weeks in Fordingbridge I discharged myself and came home traumatised from my experience. After 3 weeks in Southampton General I was promised intensive physio if I went to Fordingbridge - in 3 weeks I received about 20 minutes of physio altogether. One of the physios even told me I would never walk again! Even if this was true, and she didn't know if it was, she should never have told me like that. They said they only had 2 physios for 20 patients so not to expect much physio. I was told that Fordingbridge was for rehab and all they had to see that we got up for meals and washed and dressed. I spoke to a patient who had been in there for 20 weeks and one who had been in there for 16 weeks! One male nurse regularly woke me by grabbing my arm at 6 am to put a BP cuff on and stuck a thermometer in my ear then dropped my arm back on the bed without a word. On more than one occasion the late shift gathered at the end of my bed after we had been settled down for the night and had a noisy discussions about hospital procedure and staffing arrangements and whether they should change jobs. I know it was more difficult for me because I couldn't see, but I didn't feel I was given the reassurance that would have made all the difference.
