Ward staff are regularly very caring, patient and exhausted. The willingness of the nurses is great, this capability, however is unsustainable given the complex conditions of patients and their inability to perform basic functions and tasks. Staff to patient ratios on assessment wards is quite simply inadequate. Complex needs, an ever ageing patient profile and their ever changing physical needs does not leave sufficient time for ward nurses to nurse, monitor, medicate and take breaks. You have some great people, but you WILL lose them, or lose their motivation, unless this is managed effectively thoughtfully and quickly. Hiring caring staff is not enough if those staff then feel ignored, let down, unsupported and undervalued. This is not about pay, this is about patient safety and staff moral You have only a small window of opportunity |

Attended for bloods at Stafford hospital. The lady who’s took my bloods was really nice. I have a needle phobia and I never felt a thing. She was really nice. I had got an appt and was told to take a number off the wall. When I was called I was asked why I’d taken a number when I had an appt (I was told to). However there was a staff member who said there’s a sign. While I didn’t take offence it did come over a little abrupt. (I said I couldn’t read, which may be the case for some people). I left the hospital pleased with the service and happy of how pleasant the lady who took by bloods were, along with those who pointed out where the bloods section was. |

Attended county hospital ward 8 for hernia surgery. Very nervous, but all the medical staff were outstanding - from surgeon, anaesthetist and nurses. Thank you so much |
