Having had a rheumatoid arthritis flare I phoned the advice line at 9:30, they said I needed to talk to a practitioner. I received a phone call back before 11:00 - they decided I needed to see someone before my appointment in 3 weeks time - I'm on holiday for 2 weeks of that 3. Someone phoned back to offer an emergency appointment in 2 days time. Amazing! Thank you rheumatology! Original Comment Report... Reply from The Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Wed, 31 Jul 2019 08:52:00 +0100 Dear Jill Thank you for sharing your experience about the brilliant response time from our Rheumatology Department. It is always great to hear when a service is running well and able to offer such individualised care for its patients. We hope they are able to offer you some level of comfort from your flare up so that you can enjoy your holiday in relative comfort. I am by no means an expert on rheumatoid arthritis but do understand that changes to medication can take time to take effect and hope that your diligence in recognising your flare up quickly and receiving attention means you can nip it in the bud. We will share your kind feedback with the department lead to share with the rest of the staff there. Regards Patient Experience Team |

The phone number is always engaged Reply from The Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Wed, 15 May 2019 10:20:00 +0100 Dear Polomarco We are sorry to hear that you have had such difficulty in contacting the Phlebotomy service but as I’m sure you can imagine with the closure of the Christchurch clinic it has been a busy time answering queries and concerns. The decision to close the Phlebotomy service at Christchurch was planned in conjunction with the Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) who organise services across Dorset. The information below has also been shared with all GP practices across Dorset as well as the local press, and is available on our website www.rbch.nhs.uk. Christchurch Hospital GP phlebotomy service: The NHS Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is currently working to move phlebotomy for GP requested blood tests back to GP surgeries so patients can be seen for pathology tests closer to home and avoid the journey to hospital. As a consequence we will be closing the Christchurch Hospital Phlebotomy Service for GP requested blood tests from Monday 15 April. Patients who have blood tests requested by the hospital can continue to attend Christchurch Hospital, as well as Royal Bournemouth Hospital (RBH). The change also doesn’t affect patients who have booked appointments for their warfarin INR. The CCG is still working to ensure there is sufficient capacity in the community for GP blood tests. Where there is a shortfall patients will be redirected to RBH as an interim measure. We recommend calling to book an appointment on 01202 704785 to avoid a long wait during this transition period. I hope this in some way reassures you that any disruption is expected to be short term and the longer term benefits will be that future tests will be carried out closer to home and thus save you time and expense.
