This is the worst doctors surgery I've ever known, and has been rated by the CQC as requiring improvement. Appointments are rationed and rare. You waste hours calling and are then assessed on the phone by a medically unqualified receptionist who determines whether or not you get an appointment. The lack of clear guidelines as to the criteria used for determining appointments or not risks favouritism and discrimination. Any right-minded person knows that clinical need should be he only criteria. If you are lucky enough to get an appointment, it's often with a nurse or trainee/medical student. This has led to serious misdiagnosis in the past, causing avoidable consequences. Frequently they deny availability of appointments and direct you to the walk-in centre; no wonder our poor hospitals struggle with demand. Should you raise concerns, you are treated with contempt by the practice management. Btw - they aren't a charity doing the public a favour for free; they're a business in receipt of huge sums of money from the government, paid for by taxpayers. My advice: avoid, avoid, avoid, it's a complete waste of your time. | ||||||

My partner is registered here. You cannot get an appointment or a call back. It used to be alright but has gone markedly downhill. What's the point of being registered with a GP practice if you have to go elsewhere to get medical help?
Maybe the principle of being registered with a GP surgery has had it's day, or is it just this surgery? | ||||||

Suffering with a chest infection following a virus, I called the surgery from 8am. I was put on hold waiting to speak with receptionist but still no answer after 15 minutes, so I hung up. Repeated this approx. 4 times to no avail. I appreciate a surgery will be busy first thing in the morning however the wait seemed a little too long. Eventually, on around the fifth call, after an hour of calling on and off, after 9am, I got to speak with someone, following a short wait. The receptionist began by saying they are operating a triage system (that's fine, it's what always happens - you don't get a face-to-face appointment without that) but as soon as I said I'd had virus symptoms for over a week, I was immediately informed, without being able to explain chest infection symptoms, that I could go to the walk-in centre. I did go to the walk-in centre and got the help that was needed. In fact I have used the Walk-in Centre, and paid to see a Private GP, a few times in recent years. I appreciate NHS services are always under pressure, and I have had mixed experiences with Bacon Road over the years, some excellent, some not so good, but the appointment policy currently being operated (where you can't even get a phone call back) does not inspire trust and confidence that your own GP surgery is there to help in an emergency. | ||||||
