I had an appointment for 4.30pm on Thursday 29th of August 2019 for a follow up appointment with an ongoing condition.Unfortunately I was caught up in a traffic jam on the way there, at 4.20 however I called the surgery to advise them I was running late and to ask if it would be ok for me to arrive around 20 mins late. I was told by the receptionist that she would let the Doctor know and that it would be fine. I arrived at 4.43 and was told that because I was outside the 10 minute window ( she did not tell me this on the telephone and 3 minutes is a bit harsh ) I might not be able to see the Doctor. the receptionist however messaged the Doctor to let them know I had arrived, the Doctor at that point had a patient with them. We sat and waited for 40 minutes during which time the receptionist messaged the Doctor a further 2 times. The receptionist was very helpful but eventually came to see me at 5.20 to say that as the Doctor finished at 5.00pm they had messaged her to say that they would not be able to see me and I was to make another appointment for the week after.If this had been explained to me on the telephone I would have accepted that it was my fault I was running late. As previously stated this was a follow up appointment with the same Doctor for my ongoing mental health condition and so they were fully aware of the upset this situation could likely cause.I am disappointed that on numerous occasions I have sat and waited when the Doctor has been running late but when on the one occasion ever that I was unavoidably running late I was treated so poorly. Even after the last patient had left and I could see that the Doctor had no one in their office ( from 5 pm ) I was still sat in the waiting room until 5.20 before the receptionist received notification that the Doctor would not see me. Surely as the doctor had received two or three on screen messages letting them know I was waiting( from 4.43pm) they could surely have informed me at least 20 minutes earlier ( between patients ) . If the messages were not seen at that time then at least 10 minutes of my time could have been saved by the Doctor by replying to the receptionist at the end of the last consultation. This feels like a blatant disregard and value of someone else’s time . A little courtesy could have been afforded to me as I had done to the surgery/doctor in letting them know / asking if this was acceptable If I was late. | ||||||

We have been with your surgery just over 12 months, up to now fantastic service can not fault it, until yesterday, my mum has home visits for her inr as she lives with me and I work away etc so can't always make these important appointments as her blood was 4.2 it was important to have her bloods done again in 5days, which was yesterday, the nurse hadn't arrived not a problem so I phoned the surgery to explain we had to be in Halifax for 1pm they said pop to Pilsley on your way and we will see her, we waited and eventually seen by a nurse, I found the nurse's manner to be cold rude and abrupt, saying they weren't as soft as Keeley if we were here today what is our problem with getting here any other day, I tried to explain at 11.50 we had to be in Halifax for one, they said my mum can no longer have home visits at 89 who's blood is sometimes extremely high struggles to get about and I am out at work !!! What happens then, please explain, they asked if my mum needed to see a doctor what would we do I said we would pop in to the surgery if we could or we would have to have a home visit, their reply again was so there you go you can get into the surgery, what a shame that at 89 she is confronted by someone who has not an ounce of compassion, make no mistake if I'm here no problems but when we have a extremely high blood count and it's important and I'm not available please explain what are we suppose to do.

Regrettably, we are only able to offer appointments at home for patients who are housebound. This conforms with NHS policy for home visits. Generally speaking, the home environment is less suitable than the surgery for carrying out examinations and making diagnoses and individual home visits take the nurses more time. Our INR Nurses are under increasing pressure to perform more home visits so we do try to make sure that those patients who can attend surgery do so. We are of course aware that on occasions patients cannot get into surgery for appointments due to illness or other reasons, this is where, by working together, we can mutually agree whether there is a need for the home visit or whether on that particular day the patient can be seen in surgery, making a joint decision where both parties are happy. Your complaint has been investigated by myself and our Nurse Manager and discussed with the staff member. I am very sorry that you felt that the nurse who discussed this with you on this occasion was rude and abrupt. This was not their intention. At the surgery most of the doctors are great, perhaps with the others it's a clash of personalities. I can usually get an appointment when it's needed, or get advice if I need it. Most of the staff go out of their way to help and I feel I am treated as an individual rather than another patient. This is important to self esteem, at least it is to mine. This is true of doctors, nurses, secretaries, receptionists, phlebotomists, in fact everyone working at the surgery. When my son was diagnosed as terminally ill last year, the Staff really helped us and we can't thank them enough. My son even came to like one doctor he would not see previously. A great effort by all ensured my sons last week was as good as it could be. Thank you so much. | ||||||
