I am working and temporarily living (being accommodated with work) within 0.3 of a mile from this clinic. My GP is 200 miles away.
Upon waking up with a painful, seeping ear infection, and in considerable discomfort, I consulted the NHS website this morning for details of how to see a GP without a 400 mile round trip to my own. The website indicated that I can become a 'Temporary patient' for up to 14 days with any another GP. I then called 111 NHS Direct to confirm if I can just go to the nearest, or to a specific GP clinic, as the website is not clear on this detail. I was informed that I could walk into ANY local GP clinic and apply for an appointment as a temporary patient as my ear infection clearly did not warrant an ambulance ride or trip to A and E.
According to the person on the front reception desk (at approximately 1130am today the 18th September 2018) when I arrived here at the Camp Hill GP Led Health centre, this information on both the NHS website and from the 111 operator - is totally incorrect.
I was informed that I could not "walk in" here and that this GP led clinic was not a GP surgery but a family health centre and I could not use its services. "We have not been a 'Walk In' for over 2 years!" I was rudely informed; after I had explained my previous research, my interaction with the NHS Direct service and the fact that I was neither from the area or indeed knew the local area at all. I was told definitively "You have to go to the Hospital, there are no more walk ins anymore". The person offered no other advice, help, direction or assistance and when I questioned where the Hospital was, they (the rules of leaving a review here say I must not mention their gender) cut me off mid-sentence with "If you'd let me finish...". Rude, unhelpful and ultimately wrong !
Within 5 minutes and with the help of a local good Samaritan, I had an appointment at another local, GP led facility for tomorrow morning at 8am as ..you guessed it, a temporary patient. I now no longer have to take up a valuable slot at a hospital where people actually do require it.
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't the point of a local GP Led health centre - just that?
I had more help from a local good Samaritan who does not work for the NHS than from the person who met me at the front desk of this GP LED HEALTH CENTRE. The clue was in the name, or so I thought.
You are a disgrace to the hard working people that you represent in the NHS as the forward facing, public image of that particular health centre and you should be ashamed that a local shop worker knew more than you, was polite, caring and because of the local knowledge they held, managed to get me an appointment at another GP LED HEALTH CENTRE within 5 minutes; yes, a local shop worker arranged my GP appointment for me!
This review is only aimed at the immediate interaction with the particular public facing member of staff and not in any way aimed at any medical care provided. |

I am now moving. Would advise anyone not to use here. Have complained before and now about to make second one. I am still waiting on blood test results 3rd ones. First ones were 'lost' no record of them. So had to have another. Then fobbed off no don't need a prescription etc. I have been advised by my midwife for another due to very low iron. I have been waiting over a week for results. I keep ringing to be told doctor has not looked at them yet. I am unwell and pregnant. 4 times iv rang still nothing. This is when u actually get through to speak to someone. Terrible. |

You can never get an appointment with a Doctor and if you are lucky enough to do so (tried 5 times in last 2 months and managed once) you are made to feel like a total inconvenience when you turn up at reception to be greeted by the most rude reception staff it has been my misfortune to encounter. When asking to speak to the person named on this site as 'The Practice Manager' I was informed "Oh she left years ago" and to the second named person "Nah they have left as well". I therefore decided to look in more detail at this site to find that one of the Doctors only works Wednesdays, Saturday and Sundays and given that it also states that the surgery is not open on a Saturday or Sunday I am not surprised that it's impossible to get an appointment! One plus point was the Nurse Practitioner was really nice and did manage to prescribe me some tablets but this is not a life belt I'm afraid and I'm now off to look for a new practice who has Doctors working when they are open and reception staff who enjoy and take pride in their job and don't just turn up for the pay. |
