It is difficult to comment on the service at MCILLVRIDE Medical Practice As since the start of Covid 19 All Face to face appointments i have needed have been at Priorsleigh MedicalCentre . HOWEVER any health concerns I have had and telephoned to MCILLVRIDE Have been promptly and sympathetically treated by the reception Staff whilst the reply and Resultant Doctor,s advice has come from any doctor in the MIDDLEWOOD practice. The ask my GP SERVICE is superb with very speedy response from all concerned. I would like to Thank Doctor Leon for the FANTASTIC SERVICE I received from her recently. Her Kindness and professionalism was outstanding and she went out of her way on numerous occasions to try to resolve the medical problem I an incurring. A SPLENDID EXAMPLE OF WHAT I THINK A GOOD DOCTOR SHOULD BE. VERY PLEASED OVERALL WITH THE SERVICE MCILLVRIDE PROVIDE.

I could not be happier with the service at McIlvride practice. It has always been a very professional practice with caring and competent staff but the recent innovations introduced to improve the service have made it outstanding. Their previous telephone triage system whereby you were allocated an immediate appointment/phone call to triage you or give advice was fantastic and enabled everyone to be reviewed quickly and appropriate treatment provided. Their new Ask my Gp service is a step better. I have had almost instant advice or direction each time, with prompt appointments if necessary and scripts forwarded to the chemist immediately. Their service should be an example across the UK of how best to use services and provide an outstanding service. For those people that don’t feel confident to use an online service the telephone triage service remains in place. It is so good now to attend for your appointment and no longer to have to sit in a vastly overcrowded waiting room full of people coughing, spluttering and moaning about waiting times as I remember in the distant past and which, unfortunately many people at other practices still have to endure. I don’t think the patients at McIlvride know how lucky they are. Thank you to everyone there. Keep up the good work and innovation.

Since the practices merged and went to using an on-line system the Service is atrocious. Waiting times for getting a face to face appointment is farcical. It seems faced to face personal care is not what is wanted. The receptionists are unhelpful- directing you to the online service rather than help with requests. They prefer to chat amongst themselves in the reception area than listen to what you're asking. Several times when on the phone I've had to shout to be heard above the din in the background. I now know who does what with who and the social lives. The ask my gp online service is s farce to navigate. Those in an emergency or dire need are not catered for now, the elderly and vulnerable will struggle. The New Face of Doctoring is scary

Thank you for your feedback. I'd like to take this opportunity to address some of the concerns. Waiting times...are currently less than one day. Because we have made significant changes with our appointment system we can now address > 50% of all requests and queries online or over the phone. This means we have significantly more capacity to see people when they, and we, want to meet. Everyday we have appointments. All we ask is for some more information to ensure we match you with the right clinician at the right time. Face to Face personal care is needed and preferred for many things, but over 50% of our patients ask for telephone or messages. I don't believe reception chat amongst themselves for anything other than professional reasons. Given some of the unfair and inappropriate ways our frontline receptionists are treated, it is necessary to maintain a positive morale. The reason there is noise in reception is that we have 3 lines in, and one out (for the GP in reception) as well as numerous queries from professionals and the front desk. I'm sorry you overheard receptionists talking about their social lives, but it is necessary that our staff enjoy coming work in order for them to do a good job. If receptionists were expected to act like robots then we would lose one of the most compassionate and hard working sectors of the NHS. The online system has been extremely successful and we have received excellent feedback. It is not for everyone, and if you cannot use it then you are welcome to call. 75% of our appointments are now made online, leaving the phones free for patients who cannot use the IT. You are totally wrong in assuming those in an emergency are not catered for. The phone lines remain open from 8 til 6:30 and can be used to speak to a receptionist in an emergency (although real "emergencies" should call 999 - we are not an emergency service). The Elderly and vulnerable have previously had to compete for appointments and getting through with people who now go online, freeing up both the GP and reception to manage them. The new Face of doctors has not changed (they're still the same doctors!) - we just have to change to keep up with increasing demand, overwhelming expectation, increasing need and new opportunities to embrace technology for those able, and willing, to use it.
