I attended the surgery on the 20th of March for a relatives appointment. I wanted to book an appointment for myself. The nurse who tried booking me was alarmed as she was unable to book me in. She said that Myself & my family members including my son who has a serious medical condition and Athsma had been made inactive. I was shocked to hear this. She asked me if I had been made aware of this and I said "no". I was just as baffled as she was. So we both assumed this was probably some kind of mistake. I was then told to ask at reception why I had been dismissed from the surgery. It was then that I was informed that I was kicked out of the surgery & the reason was because I was no longer in the catchment area. My husband had informed the surgery three months prior to this incident of the change of our new address. My husband was NOT told that we could no longer be part of the practice. I DID NOT receive any letters, I did NOT receive any phone calls. I was NOT told verbally, formally or informally.
That same day I got a call from my sons consultant from GOSH, she asked me why my son was not registered to a GP & that they have been sending corresponding letters with lab results for the last month & they only just realised by checking on the system that my son is not registered to a GP. I explained to them that we had been kicked out of our GP & because they failed to inform me I was still under the impression that my son was registered to Elm practice.
I had been deducted from the surgery for a month or possibly more & I had no idea. If I hadn't come into the surgery for another six months I would have been none the wiser.
This is a practice that we have been joined to for the last 15 years. My son has a serious medical condition & Athsma for which he is on repeat meds. My son attends various hospitals who need to liase often with the GP to continue his treatment. All of my sons letters have either been neglected or binned. I don't know. I was in the middle of a referral, god only knows what has happened to that now.
Later that afternoon I spoke to the practice manager who explained to me why I could no longer be part of the practice, however she was not able to provide me with a plausible or sufficient response as to why they failed to inform me.
I feel that the practice have not only neglected their duty of care towards their patients but also put my sons health at risk. I feel that this is unacceptable! I would strongly ask the person who is in charge of running the surgery to consider their position.
Furthermore I would like to add that I'm not discouraging anyone to join the practice as the doctor, the reception staff & another member of staff are amazing. I simply wanted to highlight a very serious flaw so that other patients do not experience what I have. |

Unfortunately I have been unwell for the past few weeks with no determined cause until last week when my condition worsened and I returned to see the doctor. The doctor suggested I had glandular fever and a secondary infection and immediately put into place the necessary actions of regular blood tests and antibiotics. She contacted me very promptly the following day via phone to let me know about the results and also again to check up on me a few days later before seeing her again. I have never received such attentive and responsive care before from a GP and would like to thank both my doctor and the practice receptionists for their swift and caring manner. I would like to tell you that on patient access why do you need to type a booking reason. This is private and some people wouldn't want to write it like me. I think you need to change it so people are not pressuarise to but the reason why they are seeing the doctor. This should be kept secret to the doctor and patient. This should be changed. |
