Sunrise of Hale Barns

Earlier this year I visited Sunrise at Hale Barns with a view to placing my father in their care. A crucial factor in my search was a care placement which would accommodate my father’s pipe smoking pastime, which is extremely important to him as a way to relax (he is recently widowed). On the numerous occasions I met with the Community Relations Director I was assured, unconditionally, that my father would have the freedom to use the large balcony accessible to Reminiscence neighbourhood residents for this purpose. Since placing my father in their care this facility has been withdrawn for Reminiscence residents. The anguish this has caused to an elderly man with dementia means that I now face the unenviable prospect of securing him another placement elsewhere. I am unable to deduce whether Sunrise is blissfully unaware that this constitutes contractual misrepresentation and/or whether they consider themselves above the law. In no way is my dissatisfaction with the excellent care staff. It is with the (so far) elusive and unaccountable senior decision makers in the organisation. At upwards of £1100 a week, one might reasonably expect a more meaningful engagement with the customer-provider model of service delivery and a commitment to the very undertakings so keenly and freely made.
