There should not be smoking allowed anywhere inside, but Chalkmead allow a resident to smoke because they cannot go outside. The argument here is, if they were in hospital or anywhere inside elsewhere you would not be allowed to smoke so why do Chalkmead think it is ok to do this there. It is not fair on the other residents to have to put up with this. Laws about smoking inside any public building etc were introduced to protect people from passive smoking and this means everywhere, including Chalkmead! I have since removed my relative from Chalkmead to somewhere that abides by the anti smoking rules. I would mention that after my complaint my relative feels she was treated differently, so if you have a valid complaint it does not seem to be treated very professionally, which is something that should be addressed. There are also not enough staff ever on duty, which reflects in the care received by the residents, I personally witnessed this on many occasions.

I have a family member in Chalkmead, and have just discovered that they allow some of the residents to smoke in there rooms. Not acceptable and should be stamped on. The smell was awful, apart from health issues. I will be looking elsewhere now. Anchors response to my complaint was to ignore it. I will be taking this further
